Toronto FC will make Florida their home base for the start of the 2021 MLS season, the membership introduced Friday.
The membership will use the services on the Omni Resort at ChampionsGate in Orlando for coaching and may play their home matches in each Orlando and Tampa, relying on the MLS schedule dates. The size of TFC’s stay in Florida will likely be contingent upon well being and security rules as borders re-open in Canada.
“We’re unable to make BMO Field in Toronto our home for the start of the MLS season,” said TFC basic manager Ali Curtis in a membership launch. “However we’ll continue to work with native and federal officers to observe the state of affairs back home and return as soon as doable.”
Due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the border restrictions between Canada and the US, Toronto FC made East Hartford, Connecticut, their home base following MLS’ return to home markets in August 2020.
The schedule for the 2021 MLS season will likely be introduced within the coming weeks.
