Vancouver Whitecaps sign GK Evan Newton from Indy Eleven

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing

The Vancouver Whitecaps have acquired goalkeeper Evan Newton from USL Championship side Indy Eleven, the membership introduced Friday. The deal is thru 2022 with a membership possibility for 2023. 

Newton, 32, spent the last two seasons with Indy the place he made 42 appearances. Previous to that, he played for FC Cincinnati previous to the membership becoming a member of MLS and gained the Golden Glove in 2018. He has played for Sacramento Republic FC, Oklahoma City Vitality FC and Arizona United SC throughout his skilled career. 

“Evan brings loads of North American expertise to our goalkeeper pool and will present extra veteran management to our young group,” Whitecaps head coach Marc Dos Santos said in a membership assertion. “This year, the schedule for each domestic and international play will likely be extraordinarily busy and it is essential we’re lined in each place. We’re more than happy to welcome Evan and his household to our membership.”

Newton joins a busy goalkeeping depth chart in Vancouver. Maxime Crepeau and academy graduate Thomas Hasal acquired nearly all of minutes in 2020, whereas Isaac Boehmer can be signed for 2021.
